Another shot of the killing fields. That was the path and those were some of the craters where remains were/are. Something happened there that day. The more I think about it the more this whole situation freaks me out. Me and Anna were walking around and there were these two boys sitting on a rock. They saw us coming and yelled out "hey!" It was a "hey" with attitude though, aggressive, cocky...remember the Cambodian vibe? It caught me off guard plus, they didn't ask for money which was weird. They asked where we came from. I asked how old they were. They answered 11 and 12. One thing I could never figure out is how people could participate in a haulocaust, I mean what were the Germans thinking? What were the Cambodians thinking? What I learned though, which to me makes this sick situation even worse is that the people doing the killing were boys between the ages of 10-15. They were easy to influence and will do whatever, most of the time. If this were 20 years ago and these kids were yelling "hey!" I'd be in big trouble. Sitting in our hotel room later that night I was thinking about that, looking at the worn walls, the drab surroundings. 20 years ago a bunch of kids with machine guns and a few nuts walked into town and basicaly destroyed Cambodia. The people were so demoralized by 5 years of civil war what were they going to do? I swear the world is "F"ed.
