This is part of the genocide museum, formerly known as the Tuol Sleng prison. It hadn't really been fixed up or anything. It's almost the same as it was 20 years ago. Infact some of the rooms looked like they hadn't been cleaned all that well. Faded red stains were on the ceilings and walls. As with the killing fields all you had to do is pay a couple of bucks then you could walk wherever. As you could imagine walking around those rooms was difficult. 20 000 people were tortured and killed here. The thing that struck us is that this place looked exactly like the schools we teach at in Bangkok. That makes sense because in the 50's this was a highschool. It was converted to Tuol Sleng prison (S-21: Security office 21) in 1976 (the year I was born). I walked around for about an hour then had to stop because I felt like I was going to throw up. Anna was already with Sash and Kasia on a bench outside. This complex was right in the middle of town with houses all around.
