This was the temple where Tomb Raider was filmed. The roots were a nice touch. We just sat and chilled here for 40 minutes. Later we were in a different spot and these girls came up to us trying to get us to buy postcards. It was just me and Anna sitting there and these two girls. We kept telling them "No" but they kept going through the motions. Looking and acting sad, saying they wanted to buy food...etc. We had discussed this earlier and decided not to give into this type of thing for a whole host of reasons. We started to talk to them. I asked how old they were. The one girl said 10. I told her I was a teacher and that I taught 10 year olds. To me this was an amazing contrast, my spoiled Bangkok students and these kids in rags. I knew what the situation called for, we weren't going to give them money...that's what rich German tourists are for. So I reached into my knapsack and gave a chubba chub lollypop to everyone. Their whole dimenor changed, they ended the routine and we all just hung out sucking lollypops. Kids are the same all over, candy always works. It may be lame and I know it I does nothing for them in the long run but hey, I know it made their day that day.
